About Lake Wellington Yacht Club

Lake Wellington Yacht Club was established in 1960 and is a thriving club which meets to race from October – April with social sailing throughout the year.  .

Based on the magnificent Gippsland Lakes at Marlay Point, the Club is popular with locals and visitors alike for its unique location, great facilities and friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

The club has many has produced many champions across different classes, including the Hartley 16, Hartley 21, RL24 and Castle 650.  And it also has members who just sail for fun!

Club members sail different boats with race days having a mixed fleet of dinghys, catamarans and trailerable yachts. Classes include:

  • Hartley TS 16 and 21
  • Castle 650
  • Ultimate 18
  • RL 24
  • RL 28
  • Noelex 25
  • Various catamarans and trimarans  
  • Laser 4.7 
  • Cal 14
  • Access dinghy 2.3


If you have your own boat that’s great, but the Club also has some small boats which can be used for a fee. So if you want to give sailing a go, please contact us.

The yacht club facilities include;  

  • Clubhouse with verandah surrounds – useful for meetings
  • Boat storage and lawn rigging area
  • Kitchen, Bar and BBQ area
  • Showers, toilets and member parking
  • Suite 209 – bunkhouse for hire
  • Camping area for a fee

 

Marlay Point facilities are:

  • Concrete launching Ramp – two bays
  • Pontoon and wharf
  • Lunch benches
  • Toilet
  • Lawn area and small beach
  • Fishing area
  • Limited-time free camping area   (these facilities are on Crown land through the Marlay Point Public Reserves Committee [under DEWLP] and Wellington Shire Council)

Club Rooms Hire

Suite 209 consists of two bedrooms containing 9 & 7 beds, kitchen and lounge area. Toilets and showers under main clubhouse. Minimum charge $60, $12 per person per night. (Link for pictures)

Camp area and cutting:  Several acres are available behind the yacht club for camping. Unpowered $7 per night (2 people) $5 extra person. Power may be made available some sites. $10 per night (2 people) $5 extra person. Fully protected cutting for mooring boats adjacent to clubhouse. $7 per night (2 people) $5 extra person. (Link for pictures)

Clubhouse Lake Wellington club house may be hired for events. Business hours 9.00-17.00 $10/hr Minimum charge $50 Outside business hours $15/hr Minimum charge $75 (Link for pictures)
